Students took a trip to The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich to see how  old paintings are preserved and restored. Having had the opportunity to see the painted ceiling close up, they later studied the colours and learnt about the solvents used to clean the ceiling. This was linked to the curriculum by looking at elements, compounds and mixtures and separating techniques. Students had to look at different solvents to see which one would be the best to use to clean the paintings, without removing the paint. They also had to build models of different compounds using molymods.
