What are you Hungry For?

On Thursday November 8th, we celebrated St Martin's Day with Rev Dr Sam Wells from St Martin-in-the-Fields Church. We were warmly welcomed by Holy Trinity Tulse Hill Church for a whole school Eucharist service. It is really important for us as a Church of England school to focus on the central role the Christian story has in the life of our community.

In his sermon, Sam Wells asked us all ‘What are you hungry for?’ and said that apart from the most obvious answer - food - everyone has things in their lives that they want and need, such as friends, success and peace. We were reminded how God meets with us, symbolised in the bread and wine of communion, shows His love for us and fulfils our spiritual hunger.

The service was a chance for new members of the school choir to have their first church performance with a beautiful song ‘An Irish Blessing’. We all really enjoyed singing the St Martin’s School song with great gusto. The words speak of the courage of St Martin and how he can inspire us to show compassion to those who are physically or spiritually hungry.

“From here into the world we’ll fare,
The wrong the fight, the right to dare,
Remembering whose cloak we wear -
St Martin-in-the-Fields”
