Ash Wednesday

Today, 1 March, we had an as Ash Wednesday service, marking the beginning of Lent. The service was led by Reverend Richard Dormandy, Vicar of Holy Trinity. Students were given the opportunity to receive ashes, as they did so, heard the words "Remember you are dust, and to dust shall return".  Students were engaged with the service and there was an atmosphere of real reverence.

During the Ashing, three year 10 students beautifully sang the hymn, Jesus Loves Me.

Our readings were Psalm 103: 8-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:47-49 read by year 8 students Maria and Melanie.

Our Ash Wednesday, Lent Prayers were led by Mrs Stanislaus and Detrice

Our Ash Wednesday Prayer

Gracious God

On this special day, Ash Wednesday, may our small sacrifices in fasting, prayer and almsgiving be a way to clear away the clutter in our lives to see you more clearly.

Lord in Your Mercy,

Hear our Prayer.

Today begins a period of inner reflection and examination. Help us to turn our minds and hearts back to you and lead us into sincere repentance and renew our lives with your grace.

Lord in Your Mercy

Hear our Prayer

As we live through this Ash Wednesday, may the crosses of ashes that mark our foreheads be a reminder to us and to those we meet that we belong to your Son.

Lord in Your Mercy

Hear our Prayer

May our worship and prayer and penitence this day be sustained throughout these 40 days of Lent. Bring us refreshed and renewed to the celebration of Christ's resurrection at Easter.

We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.  Amen
