First Story Oxford

Back to Latest News

Our latest trip to Oxford University was a wonderful experience for St. Martin's students.  First Story’s latest event enabled them to meet established poets and novelists, attend writing workshops and participated in literary discussions and performances, as well as visit Oxford's prestigious colleges, an excellent experience in itself.  The photos speak for themselves about the delights this trip affords to our future writers.

Since 2008, First Story have had 317 residencies in schools and have worked with more than 4,500 students, 150 acclaimed writers, and more than 4,800 teachers in Continuing Professional Development sessions. In that time, participating students have produced more than 100,000 original stories and poems.   St Martin’s has its very own writer-in-residence as part of this project, Miriam Nash.  Miriam is an award-winning poet, performer and workshop leader with eight years’ experience of running creative writing programmes in schools. Her first full-length collection of poems, All the Prayers in the House, was published by Bloodaxe Books in June 2017. It won an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors in 2015 and was runner-up in the 2016 Edwin Morgan Awards. Miriam’s poetry pamphlet, Small Change, is available from flipped eye publishing.
