SDBE Eucharist

Our school is part of a wider family of Church of England schools in the Diocese of Southwark.  Each year the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education holds a Eucharist service at Southwark Cathedral to celebrate the start of a new School year.  This year we were delighted that some of our girls were asked to serve during the service carrying out the roles of Acolytes and Crucifer.  Acolytes carry candles in the service, and the Crucifer carries the cross. Three of our Y11 prefects volunteered for this service, Allegria, Anne and Assalle.

Bishop of Southwark Christopher Chessun gave the sermon and afterwards told the girls that they had done extremely well and thanked them for helping in the service. He presented them with a special Southwark Diocese pin as a reminder of the service.   St Martin’s school chaplain Esther Moorey said, ‘I am so proud to see our girls representing our school in front of teachers and headteachers from so many schools, and demonstrating our value of Service so well.’
