Visit to City Hall

Back to Latest News

Members of our School Council were warmly received at City Hall, the headquarters of the Greater London Authority comprising the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.  At the heart of City Hall is the firm belief that democracy needs to be promoted from the ground up and there is no better place than through School Councils such as ours, with student voice at their core.

While touring City Hall, students were able to explore the roles and responsibilities of the Mayor and the Assembly as well as gain a deeper understanding of different political viewpoints and the importance of voting.  The trip also gave them confidence and encouragement to engage in political debates.  This was particularly in evidence as the students asked excellent questions and engaged well with the visit's facilitator.  One student said, 'A great experience that I would not have taken part in unless I was a member of the School Council.'
