Polaris Lecture #5

Back to Latest News

In the final lecture of our current Polaris Lecture Series, students experienced a lecture titled “How can we improve growth of small babies before birth?" delivered by Professor Anna David, Consultant in Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine and Director of the UCL EGA Institute for Women’s Health.  Professor David explored the implications of Severe Fetal Growth Restriction and how gene therapy might be used to help tackle this.  Professor David also discussed the bioethics of gene therapy and the protocols they have to be followed before a clinical trial.

Students were very intrigued by Professor David’s lecture and now have a new admiration for the placenta.  Many of our students interested in Medicine are now considering pursuing Women's Health as their field of practice.

The Polaris Lecture Series gives our students the opportunity to participate in talks and lectures delivered by a variety of inspiring academics and  professionals throughout the academic year.
