Year 7 lockdown message

Back to Latest News

The UK has gone into full coronavirus lockdown with the ban on the public from leaving home for all but essential reasons.  The decision, which is part of the measure to slow the spread of the virus, came into force from Monday evening 23 March 2020, and has dramatically changed the lives of millions of people in the UK.

The government has said you should only leave the house for very limited reasons:

  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, as infrequently as possible
  • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household
  • any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid risk of harm, provide care or help a vulnerable person
  • travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home

When doing these activities, you should minimise time spent outside of the home and ensure you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

It was announced that the police will have powers to impose fines on those breaking the stringent rules, and can disperse gatherings.  Read the full government guidance here Coronavirus: stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives - web version

We cannot reiterate enough the government guidance about staying at home. It is important that your daughter remains at home other than for the limited reasons in the guidance. As difficult as it may be, your daughter should absolutely not be outside and please do not allow her to go out to meet friends.

On Thursday 16 April 2020, the government announced that lockdown restrictions in the UK will continue for "at least" another three weeks. Dominic Raab, The Fisrt Secretary of State said "we still don't have the infection rate down as far as we need to." The government will keep the public informed about how and when the lockdown will be relaxed. In the meantime we continue to follow the guidance.

We all must adhere to the rules: Stay home, Protect the NHS, Save lives.
