Work Related Learning

On Wednesday 29th November, a group of twelve students, accompanied by Mlle Bajer, attended a "Working in the City" workshop run by The Brokerage. The workshop took place at a French corporate and investment bank called Societe Generale.

The topic of the workshop was "Presenting yourself to an employer." We discussed the processes an employer might go through when considering someone for employment. We then learnt about interview skills and practised them with some of the bank business volunteers. The different members of staff rotated around the groups and asked sample interview questions such as, "What is your biggest achievement?"

During the interview practice, I was lucky enough to get a work experience placement, with a bank employee named Louise, which I am very much looking forward to. Our final activity was called the "Trading Game"; within our groups we represented different banks and each bank had to choose which company to buy shares in over a course of several days. The bank that made the most profit over the week won. The game was really thrilling and had everyone's adrenaline pumping.

Overall the trip was both educational and entertaining, and provided us with skills that we will be able to use for many years to come.
