A the beginning of the new academic year, the Southwark Diocese Board of Education (SDBE) always have a Eucharist service at Southwark Cathedral. It is a time for Headteachers, Teachers, Governors, Chaplains and SDBE staff to thank God for all the achievements of the previous year and to ask his blessing on all the tasks that lie ahead.
The service, which took place on Wednesday 26 September, is also a time when new Headteachers, Governors, Chaplains and SDBE staff are welcomed into the Diocese family with prayers as they take on and grow in their new roles.
At this years’ service, our very own Chaplain, Esther Moorey, was welcomed to the SDBE family. Esther was joined by members of her family, friends and work colleagues who prayed and gave thanks for her being at St Martin's and the wider diocese family.
One of the readings came from the book of Proverbs. "Get wisdom; get insight: do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth." A beautiful reading that reminds all of us about the influence we have on our young people and how we can pass on our wisdom. It was a heart-warming service and a wonderful start to the new academic year.
