Ash Wednesday 2022

Back to Latest News

St Martin's marked the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday services, led by Rev Richard Dormandy from Holy Trinity church, Tulse Hill.  We had a whole school collective worship service, as well as a service especially for our Year 7 students in the school chapel. We received ashes as a reminder of our humanity and of God’s grace.  During this season of Lent we reflect on our school’s HEROIC values, we are:

  • Hopeful - looking forward to the hope of resurrection at Easter.
  • Enquiring - curious to learn more about this season in the Christian calendar.
  • Respectful - taking time to listen to God and follow his teaching.
  • Organised - making time to pray, to give up indulgences and give time or money to serve others.
  • Independent - taking responsibility for our own thoughts and actions, reflecting on the times when we need to say sorry.
  • Collaborative - encouraging each other, caring for friends and neighbours, doing acts of kindness.

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”   Acts 3:19
