Holocaust Memorial Day

Today, 27th January 2017, St Martin's commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day.  Deputy Head Girls Amy and Peace addressed the whole school assembly using the 2017 Holocaust Memorial Day theme, 'How can life go on?'

We sang and prayed together remembering those who suffered. We also prayed for those today who are caught in the world's conflicts: innocent women, men and children who are persecuted because they have different ethnic, cultural, religious or political backgrounds.

One student from Years 7 to 11 represented their year group with a prayer and the lighting of a candle. We ended our assembly with the words from the text of an unsigned inscription found on the wall of a cave in Cologne where Jews had been hiding.

I believe in the sun though it is late in rising.

I believe in love though it is absent.

I believe in God though he is silent.
